The Economic Development Partnership
of Alabama
The Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA), formed in 1990, is a statewide, privately funded corporation that works with the State of Alabama to ensure quality jobs for all Alabamians. Traditionally, EDPA focused most of its resources on programs to attract industry to Alabama. In 2003, the EDPA Foundation implemented a retention and existing industry program called Foundations for Growth (FFG). The mission of the FFG program is to focus greater attention on the importance of existing industry; to provide local developers a relationship tool to enhance existing industry efforts; and to provide a consistent statewide method for accumulating data needed to spot and analyze economic trends at both the state and local levels. Foundations for Growth now covers 52 of Alabama’s 67 counties. Through Foundations for Growth, communities can analyze workforce and infrastructure needs, assist local companies and identify strategic growth opportunities. EDPA strives to act as a catalyst for innovation and the implementation of best practices in the three pillars of economic development – recruitment, existing industry, and growing your own companies. Foundations for Growth is the EDPA program to support the second pillar – existing industry.
