
The Mississippi Development Authority
The Mississippi Development Authority is the State of Mississippi’s lead economic and community development agency. The Mississippi Development Authority is committed to keeping Mississippi at the forefront of emerging market and industries accomplished with public/private partnerships. Our mission is to foster a strong state economy and vibrant communities through innovation, use of talent and resources to improve our citizens' lives.
The Existing Industry and Business Division consists of a Retention and Expansion Team, Industry Assistance Bureau, and Industry Resource Bureau. Its objective is to provide services that result in retention and expansion of existing in-state industries and the creation of new industries and to ensure that the needs of Mississippi businesses and economic development practitioners are met. The primary purpose is to identify and meet the needs of existing and homegrown businesses in Mississippi.
The Mississippi Development Authority has eight regional offices strategically located across the state. The goal of these regional offices is the effective and efficient delivery of all MDA programs and services to local communities, businesses and economic developers. The regional office's programmatic activities are coordinated with and in support of the local economic development organizations, main street programs and chambers of commerce. The Mississippi Development Authority also has regional partnerships with Entergy Mississippi, Mississippi Power Company and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
The e-Synchronist partnership Mississippi allows local economic development agencies a means to evaluate existing industries and develop policies to attract new industries. It also permits ongoing industry visits to build relationships with company executives. The internet-based software assesses company growth potential and company value to its community.
